Oscar Loaded ‘Skyfall’ In Full Swing

Come early November, James Bond will be back in the newest installment of the 007 Franchise, Skyfall (2012) . The film will again be led by Daniel Craig who turned in a convincingly debonair showing as the MI-6 Agent in the wonderful Casino Royale (2006), and the unfortunately disappointing Quantum of Solace (2008).

Set to star alongside Craig, in Bond 23, is Oscar winner Javier Bardem, and two-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes. It is uncertain at this point what role these two newcomers will play but both have demonstrated their chops for portraying sinister villains in No Country for Old Men (2007), and Schindler’s List (1993).

Behind the lens will be director Sam Mendes and cinematographer Roger Deakins. In 2000, Mendes won an Oscar for Best Director, and although Deakins has never won, he has nine nominations.

Check out this first, official behind-the-scenes video from Skyfall:

Another Oscar winner, Judi Dench, will reprise her role as M, and John Logan and Patrick Marber, who both have Oscar nominations, have helped to pen the script. With such an Oscar-laden cast and crew, (almost comical) it seems that the only person without any Oscar credit is James Bond, himself. Although, Sean Connery has won an Oscar, he won it for his excellent supporting performance in Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables (1987). Maybe, with all the surrounding help and support, Daniel Craig will be able to bring home a smashing, Oscar worthy performance? We’ll see.

Recently,  Deakins has been shooting on the digital Arri Alexa, although prior to the switch, he was a huge proponent of the 35mm film format. We can see from a recent set photo that he has not turned back to film yet.
